CASA ELEFANTE
Casa Elefante which literally means “Elephant
House”. The shop has proudly claimed this identity since its foundation in 1919 and pays
tribute to the elephantine Hindu god of luck, prosperity and wisdom. This name has never
been changed as the shop has remained in the hands of a Hindu family for the past 100
years. Casa Elefante sources its endless reams of cloth from foreign countries such as India, China and Tanzania. Although the designs of the capulanas are characteristic
to Mozambique and many patterns are influenced by old models of the time in which they
were made in the country, since the civil war and globalization, most of them are produced abroad.
